What Tipscale does
Tipscale is a scale with two pans. Every minute you spend in a moving vehicle weighs down the left one, and every step you take weighs down the right. Win the day by outwalking what you rode, and above all win the week.
The questions people actually ask
The long answers are on the FAQ page, at tipscale-site.pages.dev/faq, and the same list is inside the app under Settings, Help, FAQ, where it needs no connection. It covers how the debt is worked out, what counts as a ride, why one can be missed, the streak, the weekly report, notifications, the trial, the widgets and the watch.
The three that come up most:
- Nothing is being weighed. Tipscale needs Motion & Fitness: iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Motion & Fitness, Tipscale. Your steps keep being counted either way, and the hours it could not watch are marked not measured rather than counted as a loss.
- "Ride ended" never arrives in the car. A Driving Focus holds notifications back during exactly the thing Tipscale measures. That notification is sent as Time Sensitive, which a Focus lets through once you allow it: iOS Settings, Focus, Driving, then allow Time Sensitive notifications for Tipscale.
- What happens after the seven days. Today keeps working in full and nothing you recorded is lost. The Week tab, Trends, the badges, notifications, the widgets and the watch app need Tipscale Pro.
Why a ride is sometimes wrong
Tipscale asks iOS what kind of movement your phone has been doing, and iOS keeps about a week of that history. It reads the automotive stretches and books each one as a ride. Because it reads history rather than watching live, a ride usually appears a few minutes after it ends.
A very short trip can be missed, a bus usually reads as a car, a train often reads as nothing at all, and a phone left at home is a ride that never happened. There is no way to correct a ride by hand in this version: a number you can edit is a number that means nothing.
If detection is badly wrong on your phone, write and tell me.
Getting in touch
Use the form below. Tell me what happened, what you expected, your iPhone model and your iOS version. One person reads it, and a real answer takes a day or two.
You can write from inside the app instead, under Settings, Help, Contact, which attaches the app and iOS versions for you.
